RMS Beauty Legendary Lip Oils Review
RMS Beauty has just released their new Legendary Lip Oils, and after their recent launch of Legendary Lipsticks in the Nude collection, it looks like the brand isn’t slowing down in the lip product department. These new lip oils promise to be more than just a gloss—they combine the nourishing benefits of a balm with the high-shine finish of a gloss, minus the stickiness. Intrigued? I definitely was. So, I grabbed three shades to try them out and share my thoughts with you.
What’s the Hype About?
RMS Beauty describes the Legendary Lip Oils as a “skincare for your lips” formula. The brand promises that these lip oils will not only deliver vibrant color and shine but also hydrate, condition, and soften the lips. The formula is said to be lightweight, non-sticky, and perfect for everyday wear, making them the ideal multitasker. With a unique combination of nourishing ingredients, these lip oils aim to offer the best of both worlds: a balm-like texture with buildable color and a glossy finish.
There are eight shades in the collection, and while the formula is definitely intriguing, the real question is: Do the shades live up to the promises?
The Shades I Tried
I picked up three shades to test:
- Lucia – A sweet, buttercream pink
- Carolina – A soft bubblegum pink
- Alisandra – A bold, poisonberry fuchsia
Each lip oil retails for $25, and there’s a cute little set available on the RMS website that comes with a carrying case. For anyone interested, I do have a discount code (LINDSEYM20) that will give you 20% off.
Packaging & First Impressions
These lip oils come in chunky, plastic tubes with a soft matte finish that feels luxurious in the hand. Despite being plastic, they have a bit of weight to them, which makes them feel high-end. The packaging is definitely functional, though I did notice something odd with the applicator: the product tends to collect at the tip of the doe-foot wand, which initially made application a bit tricky. It’s a small quirk, but one worth mentioning since you’ll need to swipe it on and smooth it out for even coverage.
Each tube has a distinct, very vanilla scent, thanks to vanilla extract as one of the ingredients. If you’re not a fan of vanilla, that’s something to keep in mind.
The Formula: Balmy, Glossy, and Nourishing
Upon application, the texture is surprisingly smooth and balmy. These lip oils do not feel like traditional glosses at all. They have a comfortable, nourishing feel that’s more like a balm, but they still provide a decent amount of shine. One swipe delivers a sheer wash of color, which builds up nicely with additional layers.
I found that the color isn’t as pigmented as I expected from the claims, and it’s more of a buildable tint. If you prefer a lighter, natural look, these are great. However, for those hoping for intense opacity, these might not be as bold as you’re looking for.
Shade Breakdown: Which One Worked for Me?
Lucia – This was the lightest shade I tried. Initially, I thought it might be too warm for my skin tone, but after a second application, it warmed up even more. While it does give my lips a slightly more tinted version of their natural color, the warmth makes it less flattering on me. If you’re into subtle, everyday shades, you might love this one, but it’s a bit too warm for me personally.
Carolina – A soft bubblegum pink, this shade was a little more vibrant than Lucia but still subtle. I liked how this one looked on my lips, though it wasn’t a standout. It has a neutral tone, but again, I wasn’t totally in love with how it looked on my complexion without a lip liner. After layering it up with a lip liner, it became much more flattering, giving me a much more polished look. So, a liner definitely helps!
Alisandra – This was my favorite of the three. A bright, cool-toned berry, this shade gave my lips a pop of color that was both bold and flattering. I was impressed with the vibrancy of this one—it really gave me a bold lip without feeling heavy or sticky. Even after wiping it off, my lips had a nice, even stain left behind, which I loved.
How Do They Wear?
These lip oils feel lightweight and nourishing, and the color wears off evenly over time. They don’t leave behind any patchiness, which is a huge plus. I noticed a slight stain left behind after the lip oils faded, which gave my lips a nice natural tint even after the glossiness was gone.
For anyone wondering, the lip oils definitely need reapplication throughout the day, especially after eating or drinking. But that’s pretty typical of a product with this texture, and it’s easy enough to swipe on without any fuss.
Final Thoughts: Are These Lip Oils Worth It?
Overall, the RMS Beauty Legendary Lip Oils have a lot of potential. The formula is smooth, balmy, and hydrating, offering a nice balance between lip balm and gloss. I particularly liked how the deeper shades left behind a stain, making them more low-maintenance over time.
However, the shades I tried weren’t necessarily my favorites—especially the lighter pinks. If you have a similar skin tone to mine, you might find that these shades pull a little bright, though they do look better when paired with a lip liner.
If you’re into bold, vibrant shades and want something easy to wear that feels nourishing on the lips, these might be a perfect addition to your makeup bag. If you prefer more muted, neutral tones, you might want to skip these and look elsewhere for lip products.
Would I recommend them? Yes, but with a caveat. The shades are not universally flattering for everyone, so I’d suggest checking out some swatches or even trying them in person if you can. They’re a great everyday product if you’re into a sheer, buildable lip oil, but not a holy grail for everyone, especially if you prefer more subtle tones.
